to Celebrate its 30th Anniversary

Radio Station boasts dozens of Kingsborough Alumni who have gone onto hugely successful careers in Radio, Broadcasting and other Fields.

Nearly 30 years ago, Brooklyn began to vibrate with the great sounds of a new radio station!

WKRB went on the air and the borough hasn't been the same since!

Who:  WKRB, formally 90.9, now 90.3 FM, of Kingsborough Community College. Since first going on the air in May of 1978, WKRB has served the South Brooklyn community with a variety of programming; broadcasting - at various times - local election returns, KCC sports, innovative music programming, foreign language programs,  informational programs in conjunction with Courier-Life Publications, and many other 'firsts.’

Since their inaugural season in 2001, WKRB has also been proud to be the flagship station of the Brooklyn Cyclones. Each season, WKRB broadcasts the entire regular and post-season games as our students serve as board operators and production assistants at the WKRB studios and Keyspan Park.

The station has spawned many successful graduates during it’s 30 years on the air, including: Lenny Green, 98.7 Kiss FM, John Parker, Robbins Entertainment, Steven Milbrod, NBC-TV, Tracy Cloherty, WXRK 92.3 FM, Wayne Black, ABC Radio Networks, Howie Green, Sirius Radio, Lillian Marin, NBC/Telemundo, Bill Plax, WNEW 102.7, Bill Spadaro, 1010 WINS, Keith Allen, B-103 FM, Karen Stewart Matzos, WCBS FM, Andy Shane, Atlantic Records, Barry Small, NBA Films, Jeff Mail ,101.5 FM, New Jersey, Jerry Barmash, “Speedy”, WKTU, Ralphie Marino, 93.7 FM, Boston, Kid Kelly, Sirius Radio,1010 WINS, Marianne Ierado- Frederick, Buzzin Fly Records, former Africa correspondent for CNN, Jeff Koinange now of K-24- Kenya; programming executives at Hot 97, Sirius Satellite Radio, XM Satellite Radio and many other stations; broadcast news producers; news reporters and anchors at WINS and WCBS 880, as well as dozens of other positions in broadcasting, advertising, public relations and marketing.

Other guests will include Kingsborough’s President, Dr. Regina S. Peruggi, the founder of WKRB, Kingsborough Professor Cliff Hesse, members of the Department of Communication and Performing Arts at KCC, various college officials and elected officials from the Borough of Brooklyn.

What: 30th Anniversary Reunion of Alumni, Faculty and Staff of WKRB. Cutting of 30th Anniversary Cake. On Saturday, May 3rd 2008 the college will celebrate that occasion with a major reunion of radio station alumni, faculty and staff. A special gathering of KCC’s remarkable radio station will take place.

The event will launch the creation of an alumni scholarship to be awarded to a KCC Communications & Performing Arts Major in Broadcast Technology. The Scholarship will be named for famed Kingsborough Broadcasting Professor, Cliff Hesse.
